S\u2019anomena \u201csistemes integrats de membrana\u201d (en angl\u00e8s,\u00a0<em>integrated membrane systems<\/em>\u00a0o IMS). Tot i l\u2019actual proliferaci\u00f3 dels IMS, encara cal m\u00e9s recerca en aspectes com ara el dest\u00ed final dels contaminants emergents (en angl\u00e8s,\u00a0<em>compounds of emerging concern<\/em>\u00a0o CEC), el control de la N-nitrosodimetilamina (NDMA), la demanda d\u2019energia i el cost total de producci\u00f3 d\u2019aigua regenerada, i la monitoritzaci\u00f3 de la integritat de la membrana en osmosi inversa (RO). La tesi doctoral de\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/lequia1.reverter.cat\/presentation\/members\/predoctoral-researchers\/item\/1215-julian-mamo.html\">Julian Mamo<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0ha investigat \u00a0un element de cadascun d\u2019aquests aspectes en un proc\u00e9s de MBR-RO\/NF, \u00e9s a dir, un bioreactor de membrana acoblat amb un proc\u00e9s d\u2019osmosi inversa\/nanofiltraci\u00f3, i ha obtingut resultats rellevants. Tamb\u00e9 ha explorat si un sistema d\u2019ajuda a la decisi\u00f3 (DSS) per la monitoritzaci\u00f3 en l\u00ednia de l\u2019operaci\u00f3 d\u2019aquesta tecnologia milloraria l\u2019actual estat de l\u2019art dels IMS.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>El dest\u00ed dels productes farmac\u00e8utics i els seus productes de transformaci\u00f3\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Els productes farmac\u00e8utics sovint s\u00f3n excretats del cos hum\u00e0 a molt m\u00e9s altes concentracions que el seu corresponent compost mare i romanen farmacol\u00f2gicament actius. Aix\u00ed, la tesi ha estudiat el dest\u00ed d\u2019un nombre de productes farmac\u00e8utics i dels metab\u00f2lits humans principals en el proc\u00e9s IMS. Els resultats mostren que dos processos de membranes consecutius, si es consideren globalment, s\u00f3n molt m\u00e9s eficients a l\u2019hora d\u2019eliminar aquests compostos. A m\u00e9s a m\u00e9s, si comparem les efici\u00e8ncies d\u2019eliminaci\u00f3 de les membranes de RO i NF, les de RO presenten un rati d\u2019eliminaci\u00f3 gaireb\u00e9 total (&gt; 99%); mentre que el de les membranes de nanofiltraci\u00f3 \u00e9s superior al 90%.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>El control de la formaci\u00f3 de N-Nitrosodimetilamina (NDMA)\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 L\u2019eliminaci\u00f3 de nitrosamines per membranes de RO i NF \u00e9s molt limitada. L\u2019aplicaci\u00f3 de rajos ultraviolats en la darrera fase del tren de tractament \u00e9s tamb\u00e9 molt costosa a causa de la gran demanda energ\u00e8tica que comporta. Aquesta tesi s\u2019ha centrat, doncs, en l\u2019eliminaci\u00f3 del potencial de formaci\u00f3 de NDMA i dels seus precursors individuals en condicions nitrificants i no-nitrificants (assolides en canviar les condicions d\u2019aeraci\u00f3 del bioreactor). Tamb\u00e9 ha estudiat l\u2019eliminaci\u00f3 del potencial de formaci\u00f3 de NDMA i dels seus precursors individuals per mitj\u00e0 d\u2019una membrana NF a fi a i a efecte de valorar si aquesta podria aportar un rati de rebuig de NDMA suficient per assolir els est\u00e0ndards de qualitat que s\u2019exigeixen a l\u2019aigua regenerada. Els resultats indiquen que durant l\u2019operaci\u00f3 anaer\u00f2bia normal, amb un sistema totalment nitrificant, la planta pilot de MBR pot reduir el potencial de formaci\u00f3 de NDMA per sota del 94%; tot i aix\u00ed, el percentatge d\u2019eliminaci\u00f3 decreix fins al 72% en canviar les condicions per evitar la nitrificaci\u00f3. Aix\u00f2 demostra que un sistema MBR totalment nitrificant afavoreix una millor eliminaci\u00f3 dels precursors de NDMA durant el proc\u00e9s de regeneraci\u00f3 d\u2019aigua residual.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>La reducci\u00f3 dels costos operacionals\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 A difer\u00e8ncia dels sistemes RO de dessalinitzaci\u00f3, en qu\u00e8 la temperatura i la salinitat s\u00f3n bastant constants, l\u2019aigua residual mostra variacions di\u00fcrnes clarament dependents de la captaci\u00f3. Julian Mamo ha investigat si aquestes variacions, pel que fa a constituents inorg\u00e0nics i temperatura, justificarien la modificaci\u00f3 de condicions d\u2019un proc\u00e9s RO (en concret, la recuperaci\u00f3 del sistema i la dosificaci\u00f3 en el pre-tractament) per tal de minimitzar el cost operacional tot considerant el control del<em>\u00a0fouling<\/em>de la membrana. Tot i que hi ha limitacions en l\u2019\u00fas de la conductivitat el\u00e8ctrica (EC) com a par\u00e0metre principal per a deduir els constituents i\u00f2nics individuals en aigua residuals, amb les assumpcions correctes \u00e9s possible obtenir un perfil \u00fatil de EC que podria ser emprat en un sistema d\u2019optimitzaci\u00f3 a temps real. A trav\u00e9s de la presentaci\u00f3 d\u2019un estudi de casos considerant el cost energ\u00e8tic i dels productes qu\u00edmics de pre-tractament, la tesi demostra que hi ha espai per a desenvolupar una eina d\u2019optimitzaci\u00f3 en l\u00ednia que associ\u00ef un cost a les diferents condicions d\u2019operaci\u00f3 del proc\u00e9s i despr\u00e9s q\u00fcestioni si hi ha una manera m\u00e9s eficient d\u2019ajustar el sistema.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Millor monitoritzaci\u00f3 i caracteritzaci\u00f3 de les membranes\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 La manera en qu\u00e8 els sensors EC, que es troben en qualsevol sistema RO\/NF, s\u2019estan utilitzant actualment no aporta gaire informaci\u00f3 a l\u2019operador pel que fa a la monitoritzaci\u00f3 de la integritat de la membrana. Aquesta tesis investiga els l\u00edmits de detecci\u00f3 de la integritat de la membrana emprant sensors EC i ens d\u00f3na estrat\u00e8gies per a millorar la caracteritzaci\u00f3 de la integritat de la membrana.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sistemes d\u2019Ajuda a la Decisi\u00f3\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Tots els resultats previs s\u2019han incorporat a una discussi\u00f3 per desenvolupar un DSS per al control integrat de IMS per a la regeneraci\u00f3 d\u2019aigua residual.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>En definitiva, la tesi doctoral \u201c<strong>Assessment and optimization of the operation of integrated membrane systems for wastewater reclamation\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0constitueix un pas significatiu per avan\u00e7ar vers una millor comprensi\u00f3 dels mecanismes f\u00edsics i qu\u00edmics implicats en el tractament d\u2019aig\u00fces residuals amb un sistema MBR-RO\/NF i optimitzar aix\u00ed la seva operaci\u00f3.
