La proximitat d\u2019instal\u00b7lacions causants de males olors com les estacions depuradores d\u2019aig\u00fces residuals (EDAR) a les \u00e0rees urbanes, agreuja encara m\u00e9s el problema. Els compostos vol\u00e0tils de sofre (CVS) s\u00f3n un dels principals grups de compostos causants de males olors, especialment en el tractament i processament dels fangs generats a les EDARs. Actualment, existeix una gran varietat d\u2019opcions disponibles per al tractament efectiu de les emissions dels CVS causants de males olors. La present tesi s\u2019ha focalitzat en la minimitzaci\u00f3 de emissions durant el tractament dels fangs i la eliminaci\u00f3 mitjan\u00e7ant tractaments a final de proc\u00e9s. En relaci\u00f3 als processos de minimitzaci\u00f3, la investigaci\u00f3 ha esta centrada en l\u2019efecte dels condicionants tant qu\u00edmics (clorur de ferro, \u00f2xid de calci i polielectr\u00f2lit) com f\u00edsics (carb\u00f3 actiu i cendres volants) en el condicionament dels fangs amb la finalitat de minimitzar les emissions de olors durant l\u2019assecat t\u00e8rmic de fangs a baixa temperatura. Els resultats obtinguts han perm\u00e8s optimitzar el proc\u00e9s de condicionament i con\u00e8ixer els efectes sin\u00e8rgics existents entre els condicionants qu\u00edmics sobre les emissions de compostos causants d\u2019olor. Donat que els procediments de minimitzaci\u00f3 no sempre s\u00f3n suficients per mitigar les emissions, \u00e9s necessari la implementaci\u00f3 de tecnologies a final de proc\u00e9s. Per aquest motiu, l\u2019adsorci\u00f3 i els processos d\u2019oxidaci\u00f3 avan\u00e7ada (POA) han estat investigats.\u00a0En primer lloc, s\u2019ha estudiat l\u2019efici\u00e8ncia del UV\/H2O2, Fenton, foto-Fenton i oz\u00f3 en l\u2019oxidaci\u00f3 de una soluci\u00f3 aquosa que contenia els compostos objecte d\u2019estudi (etil mercapt\u00e0, dimetil sulfur i dimetil disulfur) per tal d\u2019avaluar quin dels esmentats tractaments \u00e9s l\u2019opci\u00f3 m\u00e9s adequada per ser acoblada a un rentador de gasos. Les altes efici\u00e8ncies obtingudes han demostrat que tots els POA estudiats s\u00f3n adequats per a la oxidaci\u00f3 dels compostos causants de olor objectes de l\u2019estudi, essent m\u00e9s rellevant per els tractaments de foto-Fenton i oz\u00f3. Per altre banda, la possible aplicaci\u00f3 dels PAO en sistemes a escala industrial va ser avaluar econ\u00f2micament on les limitacions del volum dels reactors i la complexitat de remodelaci\u00f3 de la planta van esser un punt important alhora d\u2019establir la opci\u00f3 m\u00e9s viable. Finalment, l\u2019efectivitat dels carbons actius (CA) per a l\u2019adsorci\u00f3 dels CVS va ser estudiada. Amb el suport d\u2019un model predictiu, el qual va permetre establir les interaccions entre els CVS i el CA, i mitjan\u00e7ant proves d\u2019adsorci\u00f3 en din\u00e0mic, s\u2019ha demostrat l\u2019efecte de la presencia dels grups hidroxils a la superf\u00edcie del CA, millorant aix\u00ed les capacitats d\u2019adsorci\u00f3 del etil mercapt\u00e0 i del dimetil disulfur en condicions inertes.
