data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>El <strong>di\u00f2xid de carboni (CO<sub>2<\/sub>) <\/strong>\u00e9s un compost inorg\u00e0nic que es troba de manera natural a l\u2019atmosfera terrestre. D\u2019en\u00e7\u00e0 de la revoluci\u00f3 industrial, per\u00f2, la crema de combustibles f\u00f2ssils, la generaci\u00f3 d\u2019electricitat i altres processos industrials n\u2019han augmentat la concentraci\u00f3 de manera exponencial, provocant l&#8217;actual acceleraci\u00f3 de l&#8217;escalfament global. Entre les diverses tecnologies que s\u2019han proposat per capturar el CO<sub>2<\/sub> i convertir-lo en un producte valu\u00f3s destaca l\u2019<strong>electro-s\u00edntesi microbiana (<\/strong>en angl\u00e8s,<em> microbial electro-synthesis<\/em> o <strong>MES)<\/strong>. A difer\u00e8ncia d\u2019altres tecnologies que utilitzen materials cars i\/o escassos per a catalitzar la reducci\u00f3 del CO<sub>2<\/sub>, la MES empra microorganismes electro-actius. Tot i aix\u00ed, si b\u00e9 s\u2019han obtingut resultats satisfactoris al laboratori, actualment la comercialitzaci\u00f3 encara no \u00e9s viable.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>La tesi doctoral de <strong>Laura Rovira Alsina<\/strong> aborda els reptes de l\u2019escalatge industrial de l\u2019electros\u00edntesi microbiana d\u2019<strong>acetat<\/strong>(HA) a partir de CO<sub>2<\/sub>. La investigadora va treballar amb emissions de gasos industrials reals, va emprar un cultiu microbi\u00e0 mixt capa\u00e7 de suportar altes temperatures i va obtenir l\u2019energia necess\u00e0ria de fonts renovables. Els resultats principals en cadascun d\u2019aquests tres par\u00e0metres s\u00f3n els seg\u00fcents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tenint en compte que el sector industrial emet CO\u2082 a altes temperatures, tots els experiments es van realitzar en <strong>condicions term\u00f2files<\/strong> (50 \u00b0C), fet que va millorar la cin\u00e8tica de les reaccions, aix\u00ed com la selectivitat del producte final.<\/li>\n<li>Per a abordar un dels principals reptes de la tecnologia relacionat amb la utilitzaci\u00f3 de l&#8217;electricitat com a principal cost operatiu, es va considerar l&#8217;\u00fas d&#8217;<strong>energia renovable<\/strong>, i es va simular el funcionament nom\u00e9s amb l&#8217;<strong>excedent<\/strong>sense emmagatzematge en bateries, donant lloc a un subministrament d&#8217;energia intermitent. Aix\u00f2 va reduir per tres el consum d&#8217;energia i va promoure la combinaci\u00f3 de processos bioelectroqu\u00edmics i de fermentaci\u00f3 microbiana, aconseguint una producci\u00f3 cont\u00ednua d\u2019acetat (43 g m<sup>-2<\/sup> d<sup>-1<\/sup>) i unes taxes de conversi\u00f3 de carboni prometedores (2,2 kg CO<sub>2<\/sub> kg HA<sup>-1<\/sup>). En quant a la intensificaci\u00f3 del proc\u00e9s, es va desenvolupar un <strong>model termodin\u00e0mic<\/strong> que va permetre determinar les condicions d&#8217;operaci\u00f3 m\u00e9s favorables en funci\u00f3 del producte final desitjat. L&#8217;an\u00e0lisi dels resultats va mostrar que, en condicions term\u00f2files, l&#8217;elongaci\u00f3 d\u2019acetat a carboxilats de cadena m\u00e9s llarga no era espont\u00e0nia, per la qual cosa la seva conversi\u00f3 en successius passos de fermentaci\u00f3 anaer\u00f2bica en condicions mes\u00f2files va resultar ser l&#8217;opci\u00f3 m\u00e9s viable.<\/li>\n<li>Per tal de que la tecnologia estigui un pas m\u00e9s prop de la seva aplicaci\u00f3 comercial, els sistemes es van provar amb <strong>gasos industrials reals <\/strong>que contenien impureses i un percentatge menor de CO\u2082 (del 100 al 14 %). La comunitat microbiana mixta va demostrar ser prou robusta com per a mantenir productivitats similars a l&#8217;operaci\u00f3 amb gas sint\u00e8tic (2,5 % de difer\u00e8ncia) i adaptar-se a les noves condicions, desenvolupant sin\u00e8rgies per a mitigar els impactes derivats de l&#8217;\u00fas de gas real amb pres\u00e8ncia d&#8217;un 12 % d&#8217;oxigen (O<sub>2<\/sub>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tots aquests coneixements van permetre dissenyar, construir i posar en marxa la <strong>primera planta pilot<\/strong> <strong>d\u2019electros\u00edntesis microbiana a partir de CO\u2082 amb monitoratge i control digital <\/strong>de les principals variables operacionals. Aix\u00f2 va permetre definir rangs de control amb diferents nivells de variabilitat i obtenir accions de senyal-resposta immediates per al correcte \u00fas i aprofitament dels recursos, aconseguint la millor relaci\u00f3 producte\/energia obtinguda fins al moment (483 g d\u2019acetat kWh<sup>-1<\/sup>). Una fita que acosta de manera significativa la tecnologia al mercat, per\u00f2 que encara deixa alguns reptes importants per resoldre com ara l\u2019obtenci\u00f3 d\u2019el\u00e8ctrodes amb materials biocompatibles, barats i eficients, i les restriccions que limiten les taxes de producci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>La tesi, que ha estat dirigida per la Dra. Maria Dolors Balaguer i el Dr. Sebasti\u00e0 Puig del grup de recerca \u201cLaboratori d\u2019Enginyeria Qu\u00edmica i Industrial\u201d (LEQUIA), es defensar\u00e0 el proper 2 de desembre a les 10:30h a la Sala de Graus de la Facultat de Dret de la UdG.
