In the context of growing urban population and demand for gradually depleting\u00a0resources, coupled with environmental crisis, a shift towards circular and\u00a0more efficient management of water, food and energy in cities is a necessity.\u00a0REUCITY delivers knowledge, tools and practical approaches in this direction.\u00a0It provides options for restructuring and\/or decentralizing the urban water\u00a0infrastructure to facilitate the extraction of water, nutrients and energy from\u00a0wastewater and enable their reuse in food and energy systems on site. Thus,\u00a0on one hand the resources can be used for increasing the urban resilience\u00a0and on the other hand this management assists the existing infrastructure by\u00a0reducing the waste load.<\/p>\n

In short, REUCITY proposes closedloop\u00a0management of resources in cities,\u00a0which comprises variety of concepts with the same goal. Grey water separation\u00a0(all wastewater except the one from toilets) and reuse is one of those\u00a0management concepts, which aims to close one part of the water cycle. REUCITY\u00a0presents a greywater (GW) reuse concept based on membrane bioreactor\u00a0(MBR) technology. The concept: GW separation-treatment-disinfection-storage-reuse is evaluated for hotels in densely urbanised areas. The results show\u00a0good performance, economic feasibility and positive environmental impacts.<\/p>\n

In spite of the clear benefits of closedloop\u00a0concepts, there are quite a few obstacles\u00a0that need to be overcome for their wider implementation. A decision support\u00a0system called\u00a0LoopAdvisor aims to assist the decision-making process\u00a0for implementing the REUCITY vision, i.e. closedloop\u00a0concepts for resources\u00a0management in cities. It is composed of a database including information\u00a0about technologies, economics, legislation, products and stakeholders, and\u00a0combined with tools and engines capable of intelligent search for information\u00a0in the database guided by selected stakeholders\u2019 requirements. The goal is to\u00a0propose and rank several alternatives for achieving the objectives related to\u00a0closing water and nutrient cycle at building and neighborhood spatial scale.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
