nutrients que s\u2019extreuen amb les collites per mantenir-ne la fertilitat. Fins ara, aix\u00f2 s\u2019ha assolit per mitj\u00e0 de fertilitzants minerals, que s\u2019obtenen a partir de recursos no renovables, o b\u00e9 aplicant dejeccions ramaderes i\/o fangs de depuradora. Tanmateix, una gesti\u00f3 inadequada dels corrents residuals provoca p\u00e8rdues de nutrients per volatilitzaci\u00f3 o lixiviaci\u00f3, tot contribuint a la contaminaci\u00f3 de masses d\u2019aigua superficials i subterr\u00e0nies. Davant d\u2019aquest escenari, cal un canvi de paradigma basat en l\u2019economia circular per recuperar els nutrients presents als residus. La tesi doctoral d\u2019Emma Company se centra en la recuperaci\u00f3 de f\u00f2sfor (P), potassi (K) i nitrogen (N) dels purins de porc i de les aig\u00fces residuals urbanes per produir estruvita i K-estruvita, dos fertilitzants d\u2019alliberaci\u00f3 lenta. L\u2019estudi investiga la precipitaci\u00f3 qu\u00edmica com a m\u00e8tode de recuperaci\u00f3 de nutrients i explora la precipitaci\u00f3 electroqu\u00edmica que, a difer\u00e8ncia de la primera, no requereix l\u2019addici\u00f3 de reactius qu\u00edmics externs.<\/p>\n<p>El treball experimental es va iniciar als laboratoris del grup de recerca \u201cLaboratori d\u2019Enginyeria Qu\u00edmica i Ambiental\u201d (LEQUIA) de la Universitat de Girona. Posteriorment, es van fer validacions en dues plantes pilot (una de precipitaci\u00f3 qu\u00edmica i una altra de precipitaci\u00f3 electroqu\u00edmica) ubicades en instal\u00b7lacions industrials: una granja de porcs (Mas Monellots) i la depuradora urbana de Terrassa. Tot plegat, amb l\u2019objectiu de demostrar la transferibilitat i operativitat dels processos de precipitaci\u00f3 en condicions reals.<\/p>\n<p>Els resultats principals s\u00f3n els seg\u00fcents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demostraci\u00f3 de la viabilitat de recuperar K i P en forma de K-estruvita dels purins de porc. A partir de l\u2019efluent desnitrificat, mitjan\u00e7ant l\u2019addici\u00f3 de fonts externes de magnesi (Mg) i P, es va assolir el 90% de recuperaci\u00f3 de K. A partir del fang, mitjan\u00e7ant el pretractament d\u2019acidificaci\u00f3 amb \u00e0cid ox\u00e0lic per mobilitzar els nutrients insolubles del fang i alhora bloquejar els ions de Ca<sup>2+<\/sup> que interfereixen en la recuperaci\u00f3 d\u2019estruvita, es van assolir efici\u00e8ncies de solubilitzaci\u00f3 del fosfat del 75%.<\/li>\n<li>Desenvolupament de sistemes electroqu\u00edmics de control del pH capa\u00e7os d\u2019afavorir la precipitaci\u00f3 de nutrients sense necessitat d\u2019afegir reactius qu\u00edmics. Es van aconseguir efici\u00e8ncies de recuperaci\u00f3 de f\u00f2sfor superiors al 90%.<\/li>\n<li>Optimitzaci\u00f3 del disseny electroqu\u00edmic mitjan\u00e7ant l\u2019ajust de par\u00e0metres de disseny i integrant el control electroqu\u00edmic del pH i la cristal\u00b7litzaci\u00f3 en un \u00fanic electro-cristal\u00b7litzador tubular. D\u2019aquesta manera, es va millorar l\u2019efici\u00e8ncia de recuperaci\u00f3 de nutrients fins 1,62 grams de mat\u00e8ria seca per litre tractat i es va reduir el consum energ\u00e8tic del proc\u00e9s fins a un m\u00ednim de 0,12 kWh per kg de f\u00f2sfor recuperat.<\/li>\n<li>Desenvolupament d\u2019estrat\u00e8gies per evitar l\u2019oxidaci\u00f3 an\u00f2dica del clorur durant la precipitaci\u00f3 electroqu\u00edmica en corrents residuals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Aquests resultats constitueixen un pas important cap a la valoritzaci\u00f3 efica\u00e7 de les aig\u00fces residuals i la producci\u00f3 sostenible dels anomenats \u201cfertilitzants de segona generaci\u00f3\u201d, que contenen microorganismes beneficiosos pel s\u00f2l i els cultius.
