GRAVITY-DRIVEN Ultrafiltration MEMBRANES for WATER desinfection. TooL FOR WATER ACCESS as common good, education and research


ULTRA-SEN focuses on the use of ultrafiltration membranes as a disinfection process in Zinguichor region (Casamance, South of Senegal). The project will take advantage of UdG experience in membrane systems (Lequia) within the framework of previous cooperation for development, educational and research projects. ULTRA-SEN seeks to develop the collaboration between UdG and UASZ, and boost the improvement of water quality in rural and urban areas, and the follow-up of actions to promote and develop educational and research collaborations between both universities.

The overall goal of the proposal is to improve access and quality of potable water and its management by implementing an innovative low-cost potabilisation system. The objectives are manifold in terms of water quality, improvement of water management, and development of collaborations with the local university. The project aligns with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): 6 (clean water and sanitation) and 4 (quality education). Indirectly, the proposal also contributes to SDGs 11 (sustainable cities and communities), 3 (health and welfare) and 5 (gender equality).
