SANTEFILT25

Research and capacity building in water quality and health

SANTEFILT25 focuses on improving water disinfection treatment and the health of pregnant women and children in the areas of Zinguichor (Casamance) and Boulembou (rural area), both in Senegal. The project will take advantage of the experience of the UdG (Lequia) at the level of cooperation, education and research projects to provide continuity to the ULTRA-SEN and Boulembou23 projects in collaboration with the UASZ and the NGO “Amics de Boulembou”.

The general objective of the proposal is to improve the health and education of students and families in rural and urban areas of Senegal. To achieve this, actions will be carried out in two main areas: i) improving access, quality and management of drinking water and improving pregnancy monitoring, and ii) the detection and treatment of anemia caused by poor nutrition, with special attention to pregnant women and children. Working on these two aspects will impact on a global objective that is the fight against malnutrition. An innovative low-cost water purification system will be developed with the aim is to increase research collaboration with the local university. The Sustainable Development Goals with which the proposal is directly aligned are SDG 6: clean water and sanitation, SDG 3: health and well-being and SDG 4: quality education. Indirectly, the proposal also impacts SDG2 (Zero Hunger), SDG (Gender Equality) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
